The Freeport landowners have commissioned this work to clearly demonstrate what can be achieved within a 15m Coastal setback between Mags Boreen and Barna Pier.
The 15m wide Bearna Coastal Greenway has been designed to sit sensitively into the rugged landscape of Bearna’s coastal edge, whilst being a focal point for both the Bearna community and visitors.
The design is based on the principle of two meandering routes (pedestrian prom and cycleway), between Bearna Pier and Mag’s Boreen, which diverge and meet to create moments of activity and overlap. This approach gives both routes their own independence of use, whilst meeting the growing desire for cycleway and pedestrian routes to be separated where possible.
The design includes accessibility and ecological considerations and provides for a seaside prom, seating, picnic areas, children’s play facilities, cycleway, in addition to a café, and a multi-purpose pavilion which could be utilised for exhibition, music, or community gatherings.
The materials indicated are robust, natural, and reflect the colours and textures of Nimmo’s Bearna Pier, the coastal edge, and the maritime character of Bearna. Landscaping would be of a high biodiversity value, utilising appropriate, robust, native planting.
The greenway has the support of the local landowners and would provide a huge community gain for Bearna and its environs.
The Images show an impression of what the Bearna Greenway could look like.
A world-class amenity for walkers, cyclists and swimmers that:
- would be the beginning of the proposed Bearna to Silverstrand greenway.
- would deliver a safe cycling path along the route
- would open up access to Bearna Pier and Mags Beach to the entire community
- would be three times wider than Salthill Promenade while fitting within the proposed 15m coastal setback
- has the support of local landowners
- does not require rerouting of car traffic or inconveniencing of residents
Dearadh Féarbhealach Cósta Bhearna go tuisceanach agus tírdhreach clochach an chósta ar intinn. Beidh Féarbhealach Cósta Bhearna ina phointe comhtheagmhála do mhuintir na háite agus do chuairteoirí araon.
Tá an dearadh bunaithe ar phrionsabal an dá bhealach lúbacha (promanáid choisithe agus rotharbhealach), idir Céibh Bhearna agus Bóithrín Mhaig. Eisréimníonn agus comhraiceann an dá thrá, rud a éascaíonn geábh agus comhthráth. Tugtar neamhspleáchas úsáide ar leith don dá bhealach leis an gcur chuige seo, agus freastalaítear ar an éileamh méadaitheach go ndéanfaí rotharbhealaí agus bealaí coisithe a scaradh nuair is féidir.
Áirítear sa dearadh gnéithe inrochtaineachta agus éiceolaíochta agus tá foráil ann do phromanáid cois farraige, suíocháin, limistéir phicnice, áiseanna súgartha do leanaí, rotharbhealach, chomh maith le caifé, agus pailliún ilchuspóireach a d’fhéadfaí a úsáid le haghaidh taispeántais, ceol nó cruinnithe pobail.
Tá na bunábhair a léirítear láidir, nádúrtha, agus frithchaitheann siad dathanna agus uigeachtaí Chéibh Nimmo Bhearna, cois cósta, agus tírdhreach farraige Bhearna. Bheadh ardluach bithéagsúlachta ag baint le tírdhreachtú agus plandú cuí, láidir, dúchasach.
Tá tacaíocht na n-úinéirí talún áitiúla ag an bhféarbhealach agus chuirfeadh an áis go mór le saol phobal Bhearna agus an ceantar máguaird.
Tá léargas ar an gcuma a d’fhéadfadh a bheith ar Fhéarbhealach Bhearna le feiceáil sna híomhánna.
Áis den scoth do choisithe, rothaithe agus snámhóirí:
- a chuirfí tús leis an bhféarbhealach ó Bhearna go Trá na gCeann atá á mholadh.
- a chuirfí raon rothar sábháilte ar fáil feadh an bhealaigh.
- a d’osclófaí rochtain ar Chéibh Bhearna agus ar Thrá Mhaig don phobal ar fad.
- a bheadh trí huaire níos leithne ná Promanáid Bhóthar na Trá agus é suite laistigh den aischur 15 m cósta atá beartaithe.
- a bhfuil tacaíocht ó húinéirí talún áitiúla leis.
- nach éilíonn athródú tráchta gluaisteáin nó míchaoithiúlacht do chónaitheoirí.
